As a true book nerd (raised by English majors), I decided to start my own book club, the North Star Book Club. I am building a collection of classic literature and poetry to inspire people to learn from the beautifully written word of another time in history. But context is everything, and this genre can be hard to digest without a proper introduction. So, the North Star Book Club focuses not only on design and pretty type, but also starts with a primer to explain “everything you need to know before you read the book you need to read.” My hope is that if we read smarter, we just might fall in love with reading even more.
Visions is a world journal of poetry with illustrations that I have redesigned and published. It is a forum that combines creative energies of some of the world's best poets and features translations from Arabic, Armenian, Bulgarian, Czech, Croatian, Dutch, French, Gaelic, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Icelandic, Korean, Macedonian, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Swedish, Turkish, Ukrainian, Urdu, and Yiddish.
This poetry book design was for a wonderful client (my dad) where I collaborated with some excellent illustrators (his grandchildren). The display font, Savate, was inspired by Parisian signage and was designed for free use at MIT.
